From Father To Son Pt 3 – Ps Kerrin Wallis [30/06/2019 AM]

Strong, Trusted and Appointed

Episode Notes

1 Timothy 1:12-17 (NIV)

The Lord’s Grace to Paul

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

  • Grace, love and faith was given to Paul by God.

1. Strength in God

  • Because God has rescued from our past life, we need to do all we can to honour Him.
  • When there is a sign warning of a big dog a burglar will steer clear of the place, but when there is a sign that warning of a large cat we tend to go by our cultural perspective and think of a household cat. There is great terror when the burglar is confronted by a very large tiger. It is a much more terrifying sight. Our perspective has been changed.

Vs 12-14

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

  • God gives grace, faith and love.
  • These gifts produce life changing results when we use them.
  • They produce strength in our lives. It is the entire source of what we do. It is not excuse making grace or troubled grace.
  • We can sometimes live small and weak lives.
  • Grace gives us strength despite our weaknesses.

1 Peter 5:10-11 (NIV)

10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

  • God’s work in your life ought to make you strong.
  • Perfection established. Our life should be strengthened.

Psalm 59:17 (NLT)

17 O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge,
the God who shows me unfailing love.

  • God’s plan is to give us strength in our fears, then we can on flow that strength to others.
  • God’s calling on us is to make us strong in Him.

Deuteronomy 11:8 (NIV)

Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,

Psalm 84:6-7 (NIV)

As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.

  • Baka means ‘a place of tears’ – but we don’t stay in the place of tears, we pass through it.
  • His plan is for you is strength.

2. God trusts YOU

  • We trust others to stop at red lights.
  • Our system is to trust other. When we get on a plane we trust the pilot knows what how to fly the plane.
  • When we buy goods online, we trust our money will be invested in the goods we want.
  • When people trust us it is a great compliment.
  • God trusts YOU!!

1 Timothy 1:12 (NIV)

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.

  • God trusts us to raise our kids in the ways of God.
  • He trusts us with the Holy Spirit
  • He trusts us to make wise decisions
  • He trusts us to become leaders in our generation
  • Paul gave God a lot of reasons not to trust him.
  • But God rescued him “God said I trust you”.
  • Paul could have experienced God’s power because he knew the disciples, but he chose not to believe and to persecute them.
  • But God trusts us more than we trust ourselves.
  • He trusts you despite your past.
  • He trusts us to be bold and confident.
  • He counts on using us to reach the next generation.
  • He sent His Son and trusted that we would have faith in Jesus.
  • God BACKS YOU. He knows you. He trusts you to take on the next challenge.

3. God appoints us to service because He trusts us

  • There are often many candidates for jobs don’t get chosen.
  • Quite a few are chosen for interviews but few are appointed to a job.
  • Remember the times at School when children were picking teams for the games they wanted to play and you were to last to be chosen.
  • God sent us into our place of business, circle of friends and our city.
  • He hand-picked YOU because He trusts you!!!
  • It is impossible to fool God.
  • You are the perfect candidate because He trusts YOU.

John 4:4-9 (NIV)

Now he had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

Vs 28-30 (NIV)

28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.

Vs 39 (NIV)

39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.”

  • Kerrin thinks Jesus hates shopping as He sent his disciples to get food while He waited at the well.
  • Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman.
  • Jesus appointed someone that nobody else considered.
  • God doesn’t appoint perfect people.
  • God has appointed every type of person.
  • We disqualify ourselves but God has appointed you to reach people in your life.
  • You bring His presence into all situations to bring His love to others.
  • He trusts you and appoints you.
  • He has a mission for you today.
  • He trusts you in this season.
  • He appoints you to bring His life-changing presence to everyone in your life.
  • God trusts YOU!!!
  • You go with His strength.
