Who We Are Pt 2 – Ps Dave Doolan [10/11/2019 PM]
Why do we do things this way? When we know the why we can create.
1 John 3:16 (NIV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
It’s not about how much we have but the spirit behind what we give.
Our God has gone above and beyond and we give out of response to what God has done.
Proverbs 11:24 (NIV)
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
Generosity is seeing the value in people.
Be generous with time.
Be generous with resource and finance.
Jake Blabey – Leadership
No matter who we are, or where we are, we can be leaders.
Leaders lead people where people haven’t been before.
If we are going to lead people from one place to another, we have to be different.
We can’t lead anyone if we are exactly the same as them.
Matthew 5:13-20 (NIV) – salt of the earth
12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
The Fulfilment of the Law
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
We are called to change the flavour.
To be different we have to allow God to change us.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
When something isn’t ordinary or it’s new, people notice.
It’s a choice. We have to choose to be an example, to be different, to be a leader.
Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
We are all called to be leaders.
